On Friday June 21 2019, OzHelp employees joined the family and friends of Matthew Topp in a memorial service to celebrate his life.
During the two years that Matt worked with OzHelp he became our friend. He was vivacious and effervescent with a personality larger than life. We grew to love and appreciate him at work and also socially.
Matt trained, counselled and supported many of our clients. He conducted training with a flare true to his personality and was instrumental in nurturing the relationship with our largest national client. He will always be remembered fondly for his great sense of humour and passion, along with the contributions he made to OzHelp and our extended community.
The circumstance of Matt’s passing is a reminder that all organisations, even those established to increase mental health wellbeing in the workplace, need to consider that suicide is a prominent public health concern.
We must continue to do all we can to encourage those around us to seek help and guide them in accessing the most suitable support available to reflect their needs.
OzHelp was founded on the belief that workplaces can play a central role in supporting the mental wellbeing of our communities. These circumstances further strengthen our resolve to continue to play a leading role on the frontline of this issue.
Our thoughts remain with Matt’s family.
