The OzHelp Foundation (OzHelp) announces the launch of its new initiative under the Health in Gear (HiG) program, designed to support the mental health and wellbeing of transport and logistics workers. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN), aims to enhance access to mental health resources in hard-to-reach areas across Western Queensland and is free for transport and logistics workers.
The program will focus on improving overall health and wellbeing, including mental health, reducing suicide risk, and building knowledge and skills to support individuals at risk of suicide. Participants, including current and retired truck drivers, will benefit from onsite health screenings, known as “Truckie Tune Ups” which include ongoing support via phone or digital platforms from peer workers familiar with the transport industry, and referrals to additional services as needed. Additionally, the program offers face-to-face suicide prevention training for truck drivers and the local community and surrounding areas.
