Extension of funding a welcome announcement

National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support Program

As the nation marked R U OK? Day and World Suicide Prevention Day, the Federal Government announced a further $19 million in funding for the suicide prevention sector.

This announcement will support 15 leading organisations to deliver national suicide prevention programs and services through the National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support Program.

OzHelp is proud to be one of 15 organisations acknowledged as a recipient of this extended funding which will further support high risk populations, building wellbeing and resilience in workplaces across Australia.

OzHelp’s Chief Executive Officer Darren Black said this is welcome news at a time where our training, wellbeing programs and support is critical.

“This continued funding is an important acknowledgement of the work we are doing to help minimise risk to some of the most vulnerable members of our communities through training, workforce wellbeing programs and support.”

“No, more than ever, it is crucial that our services on the ground remain in place and available, and we must have security in funding to innovate and develop new ways to reach those who need us the most.”

“OzHelp is grateful for the Government’s proactive approach in making this announcement and will continue to deliver preventive mental health and wellbeing programs across high risk workplaces as a key suicide prevention initiative,” Mr Black said.

Recipients of the funding include Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, Everymind, Mates in Construction Australia, Mental Health First Aid Australia, National LGBTI Health Alliance, Orygen – The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health, OzHelp Foundation Ltd, RUOK, ReachOut, Roses in the Ocean, Suicide Prevention Australia, The University of Melbourne, The University of Western Australia, United Synergies and Wesley Community Services.
